Diamond Cut Alloy Wheel Repairs Shrewsbury Telford & Shropshire

Here at Ace, we offer diamond cut alloy wheel repairs for Shrewsbury, Telford & Shropshire customers who have scuffs, scratches, corrosion or any other damage on their diamond turned wheels.

Diamond-Cut Alloy Refurbishment

No matter what the damage to your diamond cut wheel is, whether it’s a scuff, a scratch or corrosion under the lacquer we’ve got a repair to suit.

With our state-of-the-art lathe right here in our unit, we handle everything in-house. This is because the diamond cut finish (ie the shiny polished appearance) is achieved using a lathe with a diamond tipped cutter to turn off layers of the alloy across the whole face of the wheel until the damage is removed.

If the alloy wheel has been badly scuffed & a significant ‘chunk’ of alloy has been removed, this will need to have new alloy welded in before being diamond turned on the lathe & then refinished.

Identifying A Diamond Cut Finish Alloy Wheel

Diamond turned wheels are fitted to a whole range of cars, from Ford to Ferrari, and some are easier to identify than others.

It is only the front ‘face’ of the wheel or sometimes just the rim which will be diamond cut, and the remainder of the wheel such as the inside of the spokes and the barrel will be a painted finish.

Some of the painted sections may be a bright silver, blending almost sealessly into the wheel making it difiicult to spot the diamond turned finish, while others have a contrasting painting finish making it easy to spot.

To see if the wheel has been diamond cut, look closely at the face of the wheel (ie the flat part of the rim, spokes or where the bolt holes are) and if you see concentric lines like those on a CD disc, this is a diamond turned finish on your wheel.

Alloy Wheel Diamond Cutting Refurbishment Process

As mentioned above, any repair to diamond turned wheels requires a full refurbishment, the same process is carried out for all repairs as follows;

  • The car is then lifted using our haudralic jack under the wheels & placed on axle stand(s)
  • The damaged wheel(s) requiring repair is then removed
  • The tyres then get removed from the alloy rim & marked up with rotation direction.
  • They are placed in an acid tank to remove the paint, lacquer, imperfections and any contaminants.
  • They are then washed & blasted to neutralise & remove any excess acid whilst also keying the alloy ready for paint
  • If they are damaged, dented or badly kerbed the wheels are repaired by sanding, welding, filling or repairing any cracks or buckles
  • The wheels are then baked before being powder coated with a primer & then painted the original colour (or one of your choice)
  • After cooling down, they the go on a computer numerical control (CNC) machine and they are re-cut to remove the damage & achieve the correct finish
  • The next process is to powder coat the lacquer and bake them further to cure the protective lacquer coating
  • Finally the tyres are fitted, a new valve is also fitted and the wheels then get re-balanced & are ready to be refitted to the vehicle

Cost To Repair Diamond Cut Alloy Wheels In Shrewsbury

With a full refurbishment being needed as well as the use of very expensive CNC lathe equipment also required, this is a specialist repair process, and costs are higher than a usual painted wheel repair.

Along with this, there are also other factors which will afect the cost, such as if welding is required due to the amount of alloy removed when the damage was caused.

Because of this, you can download our price guide which will give you an approximate idea of costs, or better still, either send in a photo of your damaged diamond cust alloy wheel, or pop into the car care centre for a written quote.

Tinted Lacquer Diamond Cut Wheel Repairs

A relatively new finish such as those seen on some BMW M-Sport wheels, as well as aftermarket wheels is a tinted lacquer over diamond turned finish.

This is where a coloured tint is added to the lacquer to make it an opaque colour which still shows the brightness of the diamond cut finish through the coloured lacquer.

This is a very specialised finish which we may be able to achieve, but you will need to discuss this with us before we could inform you if it can be achived and what it would cost.

Call us on 01743 466100 to discuss further.
